TERREWODE has established that the deteriorating maternal and newborn health situation in Uganda and, particularly, obstetric fistula these women face, is a direct result of non- functioning health systems and high level of poverty which is inextricably linked to gender inequality. Women in rural areas are among the poorest of the poor because they are already marginalized. On acquiring fistula, the women fall into absolute poverty. Read more about home
